Business Licenses (Occupational Tax)

The Planning and Development Department collects Occupational Taxes from all businesses operating within Banks County and issues a certificate of payment, also known as a Business License. The tax is calculated based upon the number of persons employed full-time at each location. Home-based businesses must also pay the annual Occupational Tax to include the owner and any additional employees.

The forms below will begin your process to be able to operate a business in Banks County. All businesses are required to complete an application form, a SAVE affidavit, and an E-Verify affidavit. Home businesses will also need a signed Home Occupation Agreement.

This department also conducts business license inspections; issues citations to business owners for operating without a license and attends court for code violation hearings; and coordinates with county agencies, especially the Sheriff's Department, to ensure businesses are being operated legally.
